good news: we won.
for that competition.

okay. we won second.

but i give my happy kudos to the champions.
well done. you guys deserve it.

every time we have a ten minute break
at the end of the game,
we said good job to each other
like how Japanese or Koreans do.
and high-five/knuckle-punch.

teamwork is awesome :)

i would like to state here that
i am so honoured to be paired up with such
smart, considerable and adorable teammates.
going through this competition was a breeze
with you guys around when we need
to double-check an answer or share a jacket.

we make an epic team :D

i hope we could combine our effort, intelligence,
analytical minds and beauty (ahaha)
in another competition very soon.
and win.

God Willing.

next year, anyone?
heehee.

but for now, let's enjoy our heavy silver medals---and paint it gold.

Misconceptions

alright. what's the deal?

i went in my bus a week before.
and we change bus in intervals at times and that time was one of them.
there were not a lot of students in there, only some from a boys' and chinese school.
i plopped myself down on a vacant seat, dreaming about the food back home and my bed
and if i could finish the bio papers in time (yes, i haven't finished it. procrastination is such a foul crime).

minding my own business (in bus terms, everybody pretty much minds their own business
unless they are already friends. however in the morning it's like a taboo to talk in the bus even though
they know each other. it's so quiet at early dawn and nobody wants to hear you asking about homework
while some try to get a little short shut-eye before arriving at school),
i noticed this young boy that speaks English (mostly they would just speak Chinese).
he looks vaguely familiar. i can't place him where but i shrugged it off.

so we change buses later and as the previous one i was in drove off,
through the mirror, i could see the boy, inside that bus,
cocking his hands at me like a gun and then 'shoots' at me, winking one eye.
my reaction : wtf?

i can feel my face with my eyebrows furrow in confusion.
i'm quite sure he was not making 'a pass' at me.
that is almost laughable to consider. *laughs in total hilarity*
but does he even know me? that is unsure.
because i'm sure as a brick that i don't remember him.

earlier this week,
i went in the wednesday bus and felt a tap on my arm as i entered
i sat down firstly and saw the same kid.
he waved at me. okay. he must know me from somewhere..
i raised an 'i know' eyebrow, feigning acknowledgement
(that i totally lack in my people recognition right then)

and this happened before.

during the Bakat Interact 2010
(dubbed the "Escape to Yayasan")
i was in my seat (disturbingly near the speakers,
no wonder no one took these seats),
and a girl tapped me on my shoulder.
"hey, there."
i looked up behind me and saw a face i did not recognize.
"hey." i said, sounding like i know her (which i did not.)
"do you know what schools are going to perform?" she asked me.
her friends (which i suppose she came with) were shifting in their seats.

perhaps she's an old primary friend.

"um, yeah. there's all saints," i said while
counting my fingers (there were going to be five schools)
"...convent, maktab, la salle and lok yuk."
"really?" she said, "is kk high coming?" she added hopefully.
KK High School?
"no. i don't think so." i said sadly, "but the concert is open
so maybe some kk highs are coming?"
"oh, good," she smiled, "'cause i'm hoping to see my boyfriend."

of course.

"alright then," i nodded and turned back as the show started.

and i started to rake my head how the heck did she know me.
that makes me feel bad. i'm not one to like forgetting people.

and on Wednesday (Ko-Kum day)
I spotted her again. In my school.
She was wearing a Pandu Puteri uniform,
and walked pass by me. she smiled and made a small wave.
i smiled back.
and it instantly hit me: oh. she was my junior.
instant relief. now i know.

i recognize her as a junior in the same group
as I in Pandu Puteri. i was being exceptionally
chatty and friendly that day and i placed her face
to one of those more...friendlier juniors.
she is nice junior :)
though i'm a bad senior not to remember her :/

i have yet to ask her if she spotted her boyfriend there.
oh, and that kid. yeah, still don't know who he is.

Misery Triumphant Anticipation

I have to finish four Biology reports

but before that....

i'm going to be in a competition this Thursday
transport details to be discussed tomorrow :/
and i have never knew finding practice papers
( whodunits and murder mystery case games )
are....super hard to find. to the brink of annoyance.
really. no wonder the sinister detective genre is coming into bleak standstill.

i can't find any games to practice on :0

never mind about that.
that is about the only way i know how to practice for this competition.
we only need to have faith in our team members :)
...i think.

& the only way to cope with the non-stop school days now
(no holidays for this month, much to my dismay)
is anticipation.

lots of it.

i have already set the date in my faithful planner for the 19th July.
true blood to arrive in Malaysia by that night
Yeah :)
i even went to the extent of dreaming about it just last night
that left me feeling like i had not even blink in slumber
( the dream was random and a throwback to the second season,
i was even in the dream ---me?? in true blood??? faints in total disbelief--
which also involves an 'Eric-Compton' shampoo. well. i guess
they have finally released a product together. and i knew Eric
must have used something for his lush-like-wheat hair. ahah!)

second on the list of my jumping-up-and-down-in-my-seat-for:

Despicable Me.
Corntoz minions. (Another) evil arch-enemy. And three little girls :)
Oh. And Kenny from 30 Rock.
Enough said. I have been waiting for this movie since last year.
Perhaps i can watch it as a birthday present? *hopeful*

i'm also whipping my head around for:
Danger Radio's next album.
Ever since getting all their songs from Used and Abused
(really. where is the credit for this band? they are good.)
i was looking forward to a new release.
and i happened to find out it would be out
on my birthday

life is shocking like that.

lastly, and i think i have been saying this since January,
Maroon 5's new album :D
the single Misery is already out in YouTube, spotted on MTV (and in my playlist.)
so i'd be anticipating for new songs to come.
with Misery having the lines,
"I wrote two hundred letters I'll never send."

darn. letters. i like songs with 'letters' on them.
it's like a...thing.

and the words keep resounding in my head like a siren,
simply saying :  I am in misery.

But that makes me smile.

word of the day : iridescence.
definition - colourful surroundings.
used in a sentence - sunsets always give out a surreal iridescence.

on to those bio papers now...
(watch me finish it in eyebrow-raising speed!)

British Accent: Wow.

"Got to say, Harry Potter just doesn't cut it."
That statement crossed my mind while watching this movie (out a few years back
But I think I want to blog about it since I'm clueless what to post now):
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.
Why did I think that?
If you ever watch this particular chick-flick (way too obvious from the title), the only reason is:

Aaron Johnson.
Whom I claim as the British version of Logan Lerman.
Is your mouth gaping?
Close it.

Let's start off the review:

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging 4.2 Star Review
By Ashiqin M.

I am a sporting fan of romantic comedy---mostly for the comedy (slapstick, irony, witty…you name it), but chick-flicks aren't really my preferred entre of movie genre I couldn't live without.
Also, chick-flicks had recalling clichés repeated over and over again that I'm pretty down with the Main Idea:

The movie starts off with an Average Girl with Clueless Parents (Horrible Siblings, if any) with Best Friends Forever that help her through the 'conundrum institute that teenagers were sent to be robotically obedient to parents, teachers, local authorities aka people who suck named school'. At school, the Average Girl has to face Unbelievably Psychotic or Severus Snape-like Teachers, The Bully/ies and the Popular Girls (they come in droves of blonde, minis and perfume).

Then one faithful, glorious, oh-so-I-didn't-see-this-one-coming day, the New Guy comes.
And he isn't just Any Guy.
He is a Ridiculously Hot New Guy. Who is sensitive.
As the Average Girl gives a look-over (a super slow motion look over: covering his stylish shoes to long legs to nice bum to large hands to broad shoulders to perfect smile to dreamy eyes to the tip of his fabulously Hollywood hair with a smooth-sexy oh-yeahh tune playing) and eventually fell head over heels in love with Ridiculously Hot New Guy. Who is sensitive.

The plot can vary up till this point but it would majorly go like this:

. Ridiculously Hot New Guy got snatched by the Supreme Leader of Popular Girls.
. Average Girl got sad and planned The Scheme with her Best Friends Forever to win Ridiculously Hot New Guy back.
. The Scheme worked and a Small OMG moment happened (RHNG notice/kiss/hug/whatever that makes girls squeal  AG)
. Something SUPER WRONG happens because of The Scheme and AG loses all:  RHNG, BFF and perhaps even the respect of Unbelievably Psychotic or Severus Snape-like Teachers and Clueless Parents.
. Then AG realizes her Mistake and Revamp Herself to later Confess & Make Up to everyone.
. Everybody was fine with that and all of them Hug In Total Phew That That Was Over and We Girlfriends Stick With Each Other AWWW GROUP HUG!
. AG is super positive and thinks started looking up.
. Finally, RHNG forgives AG and told AG that he dumped the Supreme Leader of Popular Girls.
. And Ridiculously Hot New Guy, though he could do SO much better, get together with Average Girl because he likes her "just the way she is".
. And the movie ends with them together blissfully enjoying each others company with a soft, optimistic love song playing in the background.

And that pretty much was how that movie ended too.
But here's the thing:
I'm okay that it ended it like that.
I even like that movie.
Why? Aaron Johnson?
Well, no.
(At least not completely.)

I give it a solid 4.2 Star in my book because well, I could have given it less but I don't want to. I thought it deserves more. Perhaps it's my romantic side that piques my interest for this movie. It was a well-made chick flick.

There was an appraisable good choice of casting. And yes, it IS because most of the men in this movie were very good looking. RHNG, Robbie, played by Aaron Johnson, Brother of RHNG, Tom (good looks run in the family, so I see), Friend of RHNG, Zack (RHNGs attract Good Looking Best Friends That Average Girl Could Play Coy With) and finally the (sadly) gay Hired Builder Man, Jem that spends half of his working hours shirtless. Ooh-la-la.
And no, it doesn't stop with the face: they got talent. Real Acting Talent. (Unlike this one popular movie. Ehem ehem.)
To add the sprinkling cherry on top of the already big cherry to caramel sundae of what is Aaron Johnson's Resume, he plays bassist. In a band. Not a makeup one, a real one.
And just so you know, I do have a thing for bassist (not vocalist, guitarist or drummer. Bassist.)
[ Advertising 'Visit www.firstband.com ' in the starting of the film could get some songs download for the band. Smart marketing, Music Company. ]

Another thing to smile about this movie is the choice of tracks in it.
As a movie with a target audience of 12-18 years old (I assume), underscores play quite an important role of 'setting the mood' to a certain scene. And being in the group of target audience, I say I was quite impressed. The songs played were light, hearty and appropriate for chick flicks (I was most captivated by the song in the pebble beach that goes, if I'm not mistaken, 'with heart-shaped bruises and rain-light kisses'.)

Lastly, the shots where the scenes were taken were if not averagely beautiful but almost poetically photographic. Some that still lingers in my mind were the pebble beach (with the pleasing sound of rocks scrunching under your feet), the park with the fountain (where shirtless guys play soccer right next to---score!), the cold beach (the best kind for me: it's cold that you just have to dip your toes in the sea and shiver and aimlessly explore the grey land) and the rainy school grounds (with Robbie's rain-drenched hair perfectly matted to his pale, disappointed face. A breath-taking sight.)

Even the ending was reminiscent of my favorite indie movie, King of California: a slow higher camera view of the sea-side in the evening. All in the pink, intimate glow of the sunset with a song that hums wonderingly about the surprises life has in store for us who are not expecting. I always think a perfectly sound movie is one with a memorable ending that make you a little dew-eyed and hint of smile on the lips. And this one got it.

This movie is especially for the loyal fans of chick-flicks.
Nothing more, nothing less.

I need an 'Angus Rocks' T-shirt with the cat on it D:

  | to skeptical readers, NO, I do not call for Aaron Johnson. He is a free man. |

Nice Words To Miley

Read Article →
You know I hate Miley Cyrus.
Okay, not hate hate.
But still: the word 'hate' comes up thinking about her.
I'm not an anti-Miley (well, what I assume).
I'm okay, if not a little fidgety about her (and her success in her young age. Trying to make me look bad, eh Miley? Kidding.)

Why do you hate Miley then?

Is it because she changed from the already-much-talked-about cross over from a goody Disney darling sparkly princess to a naughty, lusty, pole-swinging teenager (which pretty adds up to every American teenager. Need we screw her more for growing up?) that proclaims 'I can't be tamed!'  to the ever-so-judging world of media while adorning a very Adam Lambert-ish persona. Come on: half-naked dancers swaying around, provocative black feathery outfits and…exemplary eye makeup *smiles passively*. Adding to that, a girl-on-girl make out sesh at every live performance (sounds familiar? I thought so.) ……………what? I notice these things.
It makes me a little spiteful on how so many singers are copying his style so much.

But negative. I get the artist-media conflict.
I don't really hate her for that. Or the copy and paste thing.

Then it HAS to be the impact she is having on young girls that completely adores her throughout the entire world. Do we really need her to make wrong impressions and teaching young girls to wear Daisy Dukes?

I find that unimportant. Though she does make a major impact on tween lifestyle, in my basic opinion, girls should learn who to look up to and who not to follow, especially in a budding age where they would tread through teenage-hood where the sole purpose is to find who you are and what you stand up to. They need to be smart making those choices. Miley just gives a good challenge to them.

So why do you hate her?
Because most people are mostly hating her for that.

Well, for your information, I hate her because of her-
Music.

Yes. This is still about the music people, not a social contradiction about her.
Come on. Despite the fact that lyricists were the one who writes most of her songs, her name (not her, as a person, in general) is a product. And she's good at selling it.
Therefore placing her name in some of the most well-developed song (lyric, tune, beat, everything in place, grudgingly true) is one to hate.

She is just good.
How can she keep coming back when people are denying her?
I guess she really can't be tamed.

And I still hate her :/

Ever Wonder What I Do When...?

There were times...
When I think I need a break.
And when is that?
All the time.

When I'm studying, I can't wait to get my hands on the tele's remote control.
When I'm with the television, I surf channels like mad because I can't get enough of it. And when there's nothing to watch, I would ask myself "Why am I wasting my time with this?"
When I'm listening to my music, I'd daydream or just indulge in the song. A moment later, I would look at the time and go: "What the hell?"

Later, when I'm pretty much bored hearing to the same song over and over again, I open my laptop (like right now) and stare at the wallpaper that said: It is now safe to turn off your computer and read a book.
Hmm. Well, I got nothing to do in my laptop anyways. I turned the on/off button.
Following my wallpaper's instruction, I snuggle in bed and read my lately ignored book, Wolf Hall (SO not Pillars of the Earth). Ten pages later, I would get a little dizzy from the reflection of the fluorescent light and put the book away.

Then, I cast a thoughtful glance at my three sketchbook. Probably feeling light-feet, I got my pencil box and began to draw.
I would sketch a number of times, mulling over what to draw until eraser shavings got in my way. The feeling for artistic flow stopped and I gave up hope for another nominee---which I do not have the slightest clue what about. Brushing all the eraser shavings out of the way, I put away my pencil box and my sketch book for another day and wished I Photoshopped. Damn. I closed my laptop already. And I'm not going to open it the second time for the day.
Now what?

A moment of silence and wondering what's in the fridge.
If only we still had that birthday cake…
If only we had some Vitagen…
If only I was let to eat ONE MORE MAGNUM ICE-CREAM.
My eye would catch my pillow and I automatically take it. Hugging it for a while, I null in to a haze into a dark fog of sleep, with my glasses still on. My sister would take it off for me and in the middle of the night I would realize my other pillow is under me and blindly use my foot to perch it on my face. I'm an acrobat, really. I would dream about non-essential dreams: school, friends, missing the bus (ugh. I STILL got worried even after the dream. It's worse on Saturdays.) and never dream of more important things like the future or something. Or flying. Yeah. I miss flying.
Where was I? Oh right.

And that concludes: What Ash Would Do When She Has Nothing To Do.
Story of my life.
Live it.
(Well, I do.)

so you gotta change that pattern, you know?

Twi-What?
